Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to lunge horse
- Follow supervisor instructions, clarify information and report problems
- Identify and discuss with supervisor potential safety risks in lungeing a horse
- Confirm with supervisor lunge exercise schedule
- Select and correctly fit personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Select, check and correctly fit lunge equipment suitable for nominated horse
- Select suitable lungeing area and identify and report any hazards or risks to supervisor
- Lunge a horse
- Identify and monitor horse body language and behaviour prior to starting lungeing activity
- Apply basic lungeing position as instructed
- Use safe lungeing progression in walk, trot and canter in both directions
- Lunge horse according to work program as instructed by supervisor
- Follow horse health and welfare principles during lungeing, and cease lungeing activity and report problems or abnormalities to supervisor
- Care for horse after exercise
